Astronomy Evening Raises over $500.00!
August 4th, 2008:
The evening was filled with excitement and wonders when the 130-plus crowd began to gather around 8:00 PM at West Beach. This event was our first public opportunity to celebrate and experience the 2006 designation of becoming a Certified Dark Sky Preserve at Point Pelee National Park. The crowd consisted of families and individuals armed with lawn chairs, bug spray and various types and sizes of telescopes and binoculars.
Thank you to all who attended, members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada-Windsor Centre (RASC) and all their amazing knowledge and equipment, Pelee Wings Nature Store for the coffee and use of Celestron-Sky Scouts, Point Pelee National Park staff and most of all...the weather for making this evening a great success. The sky, temperature and humidity was made to order.
Proceeds from this event will be split equally between the Friends of Point Pelee and RASC.
Plans are beginning soon to hold future events to enjoy the Splendor of the Night in Canada's southernmost Dark Sky Preserve.
